Science of Innovation
The process used by Innovation Business Partners is based upon a systematic understanding of the relationships between Innovation, Invention and Intellectual Property.

Historians of science have noted that Thomas Edisons innovations were based upon whole systems or collections of inventions. Edison did not invent just the electric light bulb he invented the power generation and distribution systems too. Innovation can be seen as a series of Inventions. Each invention solving the next challenge that moves the initial innovative idea one step further from mind to market, from concept to product.

To create his inventions Edison systematically and relentlessly explored all possible combinations of elements. Edison tested thousands of combinations of filament compositions and shapes for his electric light bulb before he struck upon the right set of elements in just the right relationship to provide the luminance and longevity required.

Not all inventions are equal in value. Edison focused his Invention Factory on critical-challenges of his time, problems such as telegraphy, power distribution, and mass production of cement.

Edison captured his solutions to these critical challenges in his many patents as the novel, non-obvious, and useful combinations of the elements and their relationships. In a patent these combinations become the substance of claims, expressed as the set of novel, non-obvious and useful combinations of elements and relationships.

The processes, methods and tools of Innovation Business Partners effectively explore, un-layer, and document the innovations of our Clients, identifying the critical challenges and the inventions behind them, driving innovation and capturing inventions in a powerful portfolio of intellectual property, giving our Clients a competitive advantage and increased valuation.
